There is a plethora of charities locally who are independently run by some incredible individuals and we recognise that it is up to the local communities to keep them afloat and support their causes.
This is why we do as much as we possibly can in the local community. We sponsor a number of local youth football teams, both director Kerris and our Area Manager Kirsty have children in local football teams, so we understand the costs involved for the clubs when it comes to kits, travel to matches and pitch hire.
If we can do something to support them in any way and remove the burden of the overheads involved so the coaches can focus on the fun and sense of achievement the children get out of playing then, as far as we are concerned it’s more than worthwhile!
It’s well known that local authority’s education budgets are becoming increasingly tighter, with school Parent & Teacher Associations regularly having to take on the mammoth tasks of fundraising for school events. We donate prizes for local school fairs and events whenever we can, we’ve even been known to provide mini beauty treatments in the past!
Our current focus is helping a local Beverley Primary school with their ‘Pupil of the Week’ incentive. Kerris our Director has regularly attended the Friday afternoon Worship assembly at her children’s school. Each week, there is an incredibly touching announcement of the ‘Pupil of the Week’. Each time the Head Teacher announces that it’s time to find out who will be awarded the coveted acclaim for the week the buzz in the room is just electric!
It is firstly announced which year group the winner is in....cue a trill of excitement from that year’s children, each child pondering that it could be them. When the individual is announced it’s incredible watching how ecstatic their peers are for the winner, cheering and celebrating as if each child had themselves been awarded this! The ‘Pupil of the Week’ receives a trophy, certificate and a pencil.
Each winner has the trophy along with its prestige for one week. Once a child has been awarded this accolade, they cannot receive it again as they can only have it once in their school lifetime. So, this is a pretty huge deal to say the least! Kerris has felt for some time that it’s such a shame that the children, having achieved something of such magnitude cannot then keep the trophy.
Kerris has spoken to the school about sponsoring the trophy. So, De Lacy would purchase the trophies and the recipients can then have their very own trophy to keep. De Lacy have also supplied the Year 6 leavers year books, following the year groups journey right through primary school for them to cherish for a lifetime.
Each year we sponsor around 40 charity events, donating anything from hampers and product bundle prizes to gift vouchers. We have had sponsored head shaves in the salon for the Hull and East Yorkshire branch of MIND, held McMillan Coffee mornings, supported Motor Neurons Disease Association and many more. We are huge advocates of supporting our local NHS staff and Council members and offer them a discount on all salon services too, it’s so important to give back!
Do you remember that time that the ice rink and Olaf were at the Beverley Christmas Lights Switch on? Guilty! Recognising what brings our local communities together is so vital. We have previously organised raffles for the Christmas Light Appeal in Beverley with other local businesses to help not only the town but those local businesses’ too.
One of the local charities close to our hearts is Bundles of Joy, ran by Claire Raper. The support Claire and her team gives to local vulnerable families is invaluable and we continue to support and partner with them whenever we can, as we believe in the incredible mission of Claire and her team.
We are always happy to consider any opportunities we can possibly manage when it comes to charities and supporting our local communities, the knock on effect it has is incredible when a whole community comes together to support others and if we can be a catalyst to reach more people for helping various causes we will.
